Hamtramck has proven to be a welcoming landing spot and potent launching pad for Michigan ex-pats returning from the Cali prep school scene. Last season it was newcomer Robert Davis who led the Cosmos in scoring and signed with UMass. Now it’s Chuck Bailey, who played last year at Donda Academy and is now leading Hamtramck in scoring. He just committed to Evansville.
Bailey, a 6-4 guard, debuted for Hamtramck against Canton with 27 points, and has had various 20+ efforts since. While it wasn’t his, or Hamtramck’s better efforts Saturday against Flint Hamady, but readily apparent were the physical tools and potential that made him a prime target for the Purple Aces. Bailey has a DI+ frame and hops. He fills the lane fast, and finishes with good hands. Attacks In the halfcourt he can explode to the rim with a bit of daylight. Gets to the line often when dialed in and aggressive. Bailey missed his one hook-shot against Hamady, even then you’d like to see him post up more given his physical advantages at the high school level, as he more often is running around the arc shot ready, but makes him easier to guard when not all the floor is used. Also should start to play off of two feet more in the lane, as he’ll throw up shots and search for fouls instead of always playing off of strength and balance.
