Division 1 MVP Darius Acuff.

Division 1 MVP   Darius Acuff  6-1  So  Detroit Cass Tech: He led Cass Tech to the state championship, scoring 30 in the quarterfinals and 19 points in both the semifinals and title game. He’s earned offers from the likes of Kentucky and U-M for his efforts. He averaged 21.6 points and 5.8 assists per game.

Division 1 Defensive MVP  Tyler Spratt  6-4  Jr  North Farmington: Athleticism, motor and fundamentals all click here. He did it all for the state’s top defense, showing that 6-9 wingspan wasn’t just for show, whether blocking shots, closing high on shooters or getting wide to keep guards out of the paint.

Division 1 Rookie of the Year  Jonathan Sanderson  6-2  Fr  Saline: He had incredible shooting efficiency for a freshman at 50 percent from the field, 46 percent from the three-point line and 91 percent from the stripe. He averaged 19.3 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 1.5 steals per game, earning him three D1 offers already.

Division 1 Coach of the Year  Steve Hall, Detroit Cass Tech: Without a D1 recruit among its upperclassmen, Cass Tech nevertheless went 28-1 and won the school’s first-ever state championship, and the first for a Detroit Public School League team since Detroit Western did it in Class A in 2015.

First-Team D1 All-State

  • Noah Adamczyk  6-1  Sr  Bloomfield Hills: He averaged 27 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 47.5 percent from the floor.
  • Merritt Alderink  6-7  Jr  Zeeland West: He averaged 19.3 points, 7.1 rebounds. 1.7 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
  • Tae Boyd  6-3  Sr  Grand Blanc  Ferris State: He was the leading scorer and for Grand Blanc’s league and regional championship team, averaging 15.4 points per game while shooting 55 percent overall and 35 percent from three-point range.
  • Travon Cooper  6-5  Sr  Detroit Cass Tech: He was the starting center for Cass Tech’s state championship team, he averaged 11.5 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.9 blocked shots per game.
  • JaLen Jenkins  6-2  Jr  Belleville: He averaged 15.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.1 assists, 3.1 steals and 1.1 blocked shots per game while shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 75.1 percent from the stripe.
  • Tyler Ode  6-6  Jr  Saginaw Heritage: He averaged 20 points, 8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.
  • Anthony Ribel  6-3  Jr  Traverse City Central: He averaged 24 points, 6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.8 steals per game while shooting 52 percent with 40.6 percent from three-point range.
  • Xavier Thomas  6-6  Sr  Birmingham Brother Rice  Toledo: One of three 1,000 point scorers and four Divsion 1 players in Brother Rice’s starting five.
  • Harrison Sorrelle  6-6  Sr  Grand Haven  Air Force: He averaged 21.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists, 1.5 blocked shots and 2.2 steals per game, while shooting 52 percent from the floor and 72 percent from the line.
  • Anthony Sydnor  6-3  Sr  Muskegon  Ferris State: He helped lead the Big Reds to the state championship game, averaging 14.3 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals per game.
